Aira Paliukėnaitė

Viceminister of the Environment

 

Aira Paliukėnaitė is an expert in sustainable development and public policy. Before becoming Vice Minister of Environment, she worked at the agency Invest in Lithuania, in the Chancellery of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, in the program Create Lithuania, and also completed an internship at the European Commission. In January 2025, she began serving as an advisor to the Minister of Environment, in July she was appointed Vice Minister in the XIX Government, and since September 30, 2025, she has been serving in the XX Government. 

A. Paliukėnaitė holds a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Maastricht University and the United Nations University, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Vilnius University. During her studies, she deepened her knowledge in Belgium and Jordan. 

As Vice Minister, she oversees the following areas: 

  • Nature conservation policy,
  • Climate policy, 
  • Forest policy* 
  • EU and international relations 

*until a Vice Minister responsible for forest policy is appointed. 

She also supervises the following institutions subordinate to the Ministry of Environment: 

  • T. Ivanauskas Museum of Zoology in Kaunas, 
  • Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service, 
  • Lithuanian Zoo, 
  • State Service for Protected Areas.
