Climate change
Climate change is one of the most significant environmental, economic and social challenges facing the world today. Rising temperatures, changing precipitation patterns and increasingly frequent extreme weather events affect natural ecosystems, public health, infrastructure and economic activity.
International climate policy is based on cooperation under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement. At European Union level, these commitments are supported by the objective of achieving climate neutrality by 2050 and by measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across all sectors of the economy.
Lithuania contributes to these efforts by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and strengthening its resilience to the effects of climate change. Effective climate policy requires coordinated action in energy, transport, industry, buildings, agriculture and forestry, together with long-term planning that supports a competitive economy and a fair transition for society.
