Central Asian Specialists Explore Lithuania's Spatial Information Infrastructure Achievements

This week, the Ministry of the Environment is hosting a World Bank study tour delegation from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. Representatives from Lithuanian governmental organizations will share their experience in developing national spatial information infrastructure and utilizing geospatial data in water and energy management with their Central Asian counterparts.

The guests will be introduced to the Lithuanian spatial information portal, Geoportal.lt, where they can find standardized descriptions of spatial data, view the data on a map, download datasets in various formats, and use a range of geographic analysis and measurement tools free of charge.

The delegation will visit the Construction Sector Development Agency, the Centre of Registers, and the company Vilniaus vandenys. Here, they will learn about the latest innovations in the use of geospatial data and visit the Water Supply Museum in Sereikiškės Park.

Representatives from the World Bank, the Ministry of the Environment, and other Lithuanian institutions will give presentations to the study tour participants. These presentations will cover the achievements in spatial information infrastructure development not only in Lithuania but also in the neighboring Baltic States. On July 8, the delegation visited the Latvian Geospatial Information Agency in Riga, and colleagues from the Estonian Land Service shared their accomplishments remotely with the Lithuanian representatives.

This event, organized by the World Bank, highlights the international recognition of the spatial information infrastructure of the Baltic States, fosters cooperation between Lithuanian, Latvian, and Estonian spatial data authorities, and strengthens ties with Central Asian countries.
