Ieva Andriulaitytė takes office as Minister of Environment: “I will seek balanced solutions”

Ieva Andriulaitytė, who has taken office as Minister of Environment, says her first priorities will be to review the Ministry’s key areas of work and the commitments set out in the Government Programme, and to meet with partners involved in environmental policy.

“My aim is to listen to all sides and seek balanced solutions. Environmental policy affects everyone, from housing and the places where we live to forests, water and climate change. Important decisions should therefore be based on common ground rather than conflicting interests. I believe that the best results are achieved through cooperation with municipalities, businesses, non-governmental organisations and the research community. This will be one of the main principles guiding my work,” said Minister of Environment Ieva Andriulaitytė.

The Ministry’s priority areas include forest policy, housing affordability and renovation, and the circular economy. Preparations will also continue for Lithuania’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2027.

“A large share of environmental policy is implemented by municipalities, while key policy priorities are also set at EU level. My experience of working with municipalities and EU institutions will help ensure that decisions are not only ambitious but also practical, responsive to people’s needs and supportive of Lithuania’s interests in Europe,” said I. Andriulaitytė.

Ieva Andriulaitytė is an expert in environmental, climate, energy and EU policy, with more than 20 years of professional experience in public administration, local government and international cooperation.

Since 2016, I. Andriulaitytė has represented Lithuanian municipalities in Brussels. She worked with the European Commission, the European Committee of the Regions, national authorities in other EU Member States and international organisations, and coordinated the representation of municipal interests at EU level.

She previously worked at the Association of Local Authorities in Lithuania as an adviser and consultant on EU affairs, environmental policy and energy. Working with partners in Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia, she led projects on the energy transition, climate change, environmental protection, decentralisation, good governance and sustainable development. She also organised high-level international events.

I. Andriulaitytė holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in environmental engineering from Vilnius Gediminas Technical University and a master’s degree in public administration from Mykolas Romeris University.
