Lithuania transfers computer equipment for 3D city planning to Ukraine

The Construction Sector Development Agency (SSDA) has provided five sets of computer equipment to the municipalities of Bucha and Borodianka for their architecture and spatial planning departments. This initiative is part of the Lithuanian-Taiwanese funded project "3D Urban Planning Tool for Ukrainian Municipalities."

"The equipment is designed for processing 3D data. We will begin testing it during the remote training sessions for the staff of Bucha and Borodianka, starting in August," said Tomas Gulbinas, project manager at SSVA.

The SSVA's 3D project aims to create a digital "twin city" for these towns, facilitating area re-planning and the integration of new building designs in a 3D environment before physical construction begins. This method is more accurate, sustainable, and efficient, but requires more advanced equipment than what municipal architects have been using to date.

During the occupation in March-April 2022, nearly 5,000 buildings in Bucha and Borodianka were affected, with 150 homes completely destroyed in each municipality. The SSDA, in collaboration with project partner ID Vilnius UAB, will organize the 3D tool training. The training is set to commence on August 20 and will continue until the project's conclusion.

This initiative is funded by the Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid Fund and the Government of Taiwan.
