Turkish delegation came to discuss how to implement the climate change policy

Deputy Environment Minister Danas Augutis had meeting on Wednesday with a delegation from the Turkish Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and the EU Affairs Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The primary focus of the meeting was on the implementation of climate change policies in Lithuania. The visiting delegation were interested in Lithuania's Emission Trading Scheme, the National Energy and Climate Action Plan, and the modernization of buildings within the country.

Turkey has set ambitious targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, making them keen to learn from Lithuania's successful climate change policy formulation and implementation practices. The main focus was on one of the most effective measures for reducing greenhouse gases – the Emission Trading Scheme and its successful implementation in Lithuania.

Currently, Turkey is in the process of developing its own emissions trading scheme, prompting discussions about the responsible institutions in Lithuania overseeing the scheme and how the funds generated from emission trading are used.

In addition to this, the delegation received a comprehensive briefing on the allocation of funds through the Climate Change Program. It was highlighted that a significant portion of these funds is earmarked for the modernization of multi-apartment buildings and municipal public structures, the introduction of renewable energy technologies, and various measures designed to assist industries in reducing pollution.

The delegation was also interested in Lithuania's utilization of biomass for renewable heat generation and its innovative methods for combining biomass usage with absorber generation while preserving absorption potential.

Furthermore, the discussions revolved around strategies to expedite building renovation and enhance building efficiency in Turkey. The advantages of employing Building Information Modeling (BIM) techniques for reducing construction costs were also discussed during the meeting.
