Svitlana Grinchuk, Ukraine's new Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, was sworn in on Thursday, bringing extensive experience in climate change, environmental protection, and international commitments.

"I have met Svitlana many times at international events, and I can confidently say she is a true professional. I am pleased that the President of Ukraine has recognized her environmental expertise and appointed her as the new Minister. Lithuania has consistently provided advice to Ukraine on aligning its environmental laws with EU requirements. We will continue to offer all possible support to the country, assist in rebuilding the cities that have been destroyed, and ensure that environmental damage is mitigated as quickly as possible," said Simonas Gentvilas, Lithuania's Minister of the Environment.

Svitlana Grinchuk holds a PhD in economics and has led the Department of Climate Change and Ozone Layer Protection at Ukraine’s Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources since 2016. In 2019, she became an advisor to the Prime Minister of Ukraine on environmental and climate change issues. In 2022, she was appointed Deputy Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, where she was responsible for European integration.

Grinchuk played a key role in the ratification and implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement and ensured Ukraine’s compliance with its international obligations under the Kyoto and Montreal Protocols. Prior to her appointment as Minister of Environment, she served as Ukraine's Deputy Minister of Energy, focusing on climate change issues.

The Lithuanian Ministry of the Environment continues to strengthen its partnership with Ukraine’s Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. This includes patronage of the newly established Pushcha Radzyvila National Nature Park and providing expertise and support to ensure the effective operation of the park’s administration. In addition, the State Service for Protected Areas is preparing a large consignment of firefighting equipment for Pushcha Radzyvila National Park to help safeguard Ukraine’s unique natural heritage.
