Ukrainian Soldiers Present Signed Flags to Lithuanian Minister of the Environment as a Token of Gratitude
Eugenijus Žukauskas, a volunteer shooter and founder of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, handed over Ukrainian flags to Minister of the Environment Simonas Gentvilas. These flags, signed by soldiers from the Third Company of the International Legion "Omega" and the 117th Mechanised Brigade, were given as a token of appreciation for the support provided by the Ministry of the Environment and the Department of Environmental Protection, which included four-wheelers with trailers.
"I sincerely thank the Ukrainian soldiers for their tireless efforts in the fight against the enemy. Their courage and determination inspire us all. We are proud to stand with our brothers in their struggle, knowing that our support helps save lives and strengthen their efforts on the frontline. Every donation we send expresses our support and solidarity with Ukraine, and these flags remind us of our common purpose and the strong bond between Lithuania and Ukraine," said Simonas Gentvilas, Minister of the Environment.
At the end of June, some of the four-wheelers with trailers sent by the Department of Environmental Protection reached Zaporizhzhia Oblast, while others arrived in Kharkiv, where the Omega Company of the Third International Legion, including Lithuanian compatriots, is stationed. These ATVs with trailers are being used on the front line to assist wounded soldiers.
Eugenijus Žukauskas, responsible for the handover, has been to the front line several times and maintains constant contact with the soldiers. He believes that any support in war is crucial. "The donated ATVs will help save soldiers' lives so that we can live in peace and security," says Žukauskas.
Additionally, in early July, four more ATVs with trailers were sent to the Rivne Nature Reserve and Nobel National Park. This donation came from the Environmental Protection Department of the Panevėžys Board of the Environmental Protection Division of Utena and reached Ukraine on the eve of Lithuania's State Day. The four-wheelers are used by park staff for environmental maintenance.
The Rivne Nature Reserve and Nobel National Park cover an area of 68,000 hectares. Every day, staff travel long distances to look after the protected natural areas, conduct research, and prevent violations. In wartime, monitoring for fires is also crucial, making adequate transport essential.
