Call for European Urban Agenda partnerships

As part of the European Union Urban Agenda (UAEU), the European Commission has launched calls for thematic partnerships in two projects: "Water Sensitive City" and "Building Decarbonisation: Integrated Renovation Programmes and Local Heating and Cooling Plans." The Commission invites interested parties to join these initiatives as partners.

The Water Sensitive City project aims to create a new standard for urban planning that prioritizes the importance of water management. It focuses on addressing water-related challenges, such as surpluses, scarcity, water quality, and the application of circular economy principles. The project seeks to integrate sustainable water resource management into urban development.

The Decarbonisation of Buildings project targets the synergies between integrated renovation programmes and the development of local heating and cooling plans. These efforts aim to support the achievement of urban social, economic, and environmental goals by promoting building renovation projects and energy systems designed to decarbonise urban buildings.

Cities, Member States, and other organizations are invited to apply for these partnership projects until 2 October 2024.

To explain the application process and explore the opportunities provided by the thematic partnerships, a webinar will be held on 5 September from 11:00 to 13:00. You can register for the webinar [here].

The EU Urban Agenda, launched in 2016, is an intergovernmental cooperation programme that addresses urban challenges through partnerships between cities, the European Commission, other EU institutions, national governments, and stakeholders such as NGOs. It involves experts from different levels of governance who analyse urban issues and propose solutions.

The municipalities of Biržai and Alytus are already participating in ongoing partnerships.
