Lithuania and Azerbaijan sign an agreement on environmental cooperation
On Monday, the Minister of the Environment, Simonas Gentvilas, and the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mukhtar Babayev, formalized an environmental cooperation agreement. This signing marks the culmination of ten years of exploring collaboration possibilities. The agreement aims to enhance the state of the environment and establish, maintain, and fortify direct connections between environmental organizations.
The cooperative efforts between the two parties will extend to areas such as climate change, the prevention and reduction of environmental pollution, waste management and reuse, soil protection, environmental impact assessment, and environmental technologies.
Lithuania and Azerbaijan are committed to exchanging information and experiences, deploying experts, executing joint projects, and collaborating in the advancement and implementation of cutting-edge ecological and environmental technologies. Plans include organizing training sessions and seminars.
Lithuania expresses its intent to broaden the scope of development cooperation projects with Azerbaijan and is prepared to actively share successful practices, experiences, and environmental achievements. Notably, the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service is currently overseeing the project "Strengthening Hydrometeorological and Climate Services" in Azerbaijan.
The discussions during the meeting between the Lithuanian and Azerbaijani ministerial delegations centered on Lithuania's expertise in implementing and managing the deposit system. Additionally, the talks delved into renewable energy sources, with a specific focus on solar energy.
