Minister of Environment to attend EU environment and climate ministers’ meeting in Dublin
On 23–24 July, Minister of Environment Ieva Andriulaitytė will make her first official visit to Dublin, Ireland, where she will attend a meeting of European Union environment and climate ministers. As Lithuania prepares to assume the Presidency of the Council of the EU next year, the Minister will also learn from Ireland’s experience of holding the Presidency.
The ministers will discuss how to reconcile the competitiveness of European industry with climate objectives, the EU’s preparations for international climate negotiations, and the role of the circular economy in strengthening Europe’s resilience and reducing its dependence on external resources.
Minister Andriulaitytė will present Lithuania’s position on industrial decarbonisation, investment in clean technologies and the development of a stronger market for secondary raw materials. She will also underline the importance of a stable and predictable EU Emissions Trading System.
During the visit, the Minister is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with European Commissioner for Environment Jessika Roswall, the environment ministers of Germany and Iceland, and Leena Ylä-Mononen, Executive Director of the European Environment Agency.
The bilateral meetings will focus on Lithuania’s priorities for its Presidency of the Council of the EU, forthcoming EU environment and climate legislation, and further cooperation with EU institutions and Member States.
