Specialists from Singapore came to learn about the successful Lithuanian tare deposit system

Environment Minister Simonas Gentvilas held a meeting on Monday with a delegation from Singapore's Ministry of Sustainability and Environment. Environmental experts visited Lithuania to get more information about container deposit scheme, which Singapore is considering implementing.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister for the Environment Raminta Radavičienė, Singapore's Deputy Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Amy Khor, as well as officials from the National Environment Agency.

The primary focus of the meeting was Lithuania's experiences and challenges in implementing and managing the deposit system.

Singapore has set ambitious goals to become a climate-neutral country by 2050. Implementation of extended producer responsibility system for managing packaging waste, including a take-back system for beverage containers, is one of the strategies to achieve this objective.

The delegation will continue their visit by touring the Public Deposit System Administrator and the Green Group's PET bottle recycling plant, along with representatives from Singaporean retail chain operators and beverage producers.
